The White Pube, a tongue-in-cheek art critic duo also known as Zarina Muhammad and Gabrielle de la Puente, was formed in response to the pair’s growing frustration at the lack of diversity and BAME representation in the art world.
Describing themselves as ‘art critic baby gods’, the duo focuses on reviewing female, BAME and non-London based artists with the aim of reaching a similar audience away from the art world which they perceive as being a ‘male space for rich middle-class knobs’. Although they call themselves ‘unprofessional, irresponsible part-time critics’, the duo are becoming more and more respected for their output and currently write a monthly ‘art agony aunt’ column for Dazed, answering questions about inclusivity in the art industry.
